If you are thinking of booking Morocco tours but are not sure what the latest travel restrictions from the UK are, then here’s what you need to know about travel to Morocco.
At the moment, Morocco is on the UK Government’s “rest of the world” list meaning it is OK to travel there. However, the Moroccan Government has banned all flights into the country from the UK. Here is what we know so far about the Morocco travel ban.
Can I travel to Morocco from the UK?
Not at the moment no. On 28th November 2021 the Moroccan government announced it was suspending all flights to Morocco for a period of two weeks. This measure came into effect from 11:59pm on Monday 29th November.
This was in addition to the previous travel ban to Morocco that was announced on October the 21st and which banned flights from Germany, the Netherlands and the UK for an unspecified period of time due to concerns over the rising number of coronavirus cases in each country.
What are the entry requirements for Morocco?
At the moment no flights from the UK are being allowed into Morocco.
However, when flights do resume and our VIP Morocco Tours are underway again, the entry requirements will include:
- Proving that you have been fully vaccinated against Coronavirus at least two weeks before you travel to Morocco
- Being able to show a negative PCR test taken in the 48 hours before arrival
Children aged 6 and under are exempt from these restrictions.
Fron Sunday 13th November, arrivals in Morocco are also asked to present a Passenger Health Form and may be asked to do a rapid antigen test as well. Be warned, if you do test positive on this test and are not a resident of Morocco, your airline provider will be asked to help you leave the country immediately. Children under the age of 12 are exempt from testing on arrival.
Is Morocco on the red list?
No, Morocco is not on the red list.
This means that if you are travelling to Morocco from the UK, you don’t need to quarantine – as long as you are fully vaccinated. You will also need to fill out a passenger locator form, as well as book and pay for a PCR test to be taken on or before day 2 of your return. Lateral flow tests are no longer accepted, and you must isolate at home while you wait for the results of your PCR test.
Unvaccinated travellers returning from Morocco also have to fill out a passenger locator form, but on top of that they need to quarantine at home for ten days, alongside taking a PCR test on day two and day eight after you return. In England, travellers are also able to pay for a “Test to Release” test that can shorten quarantine to five days – if the result is negative.
Staying in Morocco
Morocco is currently under a state of emergency as a measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Private and public gatherings are, however, permitted but you will need a vaccine pass showing proof of COVID-19 vaccination as this is mandatory to be able to enter most public or private spaces including hotels, cafes and restaurants, stores, and hospitals. If you have been vaccinated through the Moroccan national vaccination campaign then you can get your vaccine pass in Arabic or French online.
Travel restrictions between neighbourhoods, cities and regions remain in place – except for those travellers who have exceptional authorisation and those carrying a COVID-19 vaccine pass. However, before you travel, you should contact the local police station to confirm this.
Mobile police checkpoints are frequent in Morocco, and can appear at any time and in any location. If you are stopped, make sure you comply with the requests and follow the advice of the local authorities at all time.
Take care to protect yourself from exposure to COVID-19. It is mandatory in Morocco to wear a face mask in public places. You should also be prepared to undergo a temperature check and use hand sanitiser when you are entering places as well.
COVID-19 Testing Requirements – Outgoing Travel to Morocco
- Visitors from the UK must present a negative RT-PCR Test taken 48 hours before departure to Morocco – regardless of their vaccination status. Test result must be in Arabic, English or French. This requirement does not apply to travellers aged 6 or under.
- Visitors from the UK are not required to quarantine after entering Morocco. There are exceptions to this however. If you are a resident of Morocco and you test positive on arrival, then you will be required to undergo a ten-day quarantine period. All other travellers who test positive on arrival will not be allowed to enter the country.
Returning to the UK from Morocco
- Unvaccinated travellers from Morocco must present a negative PCR test or lateral flow test taken 72 hours before departure to the UK
- Fully vaccinated travellers with approved vaccination certificates do not need to present a negative COVID test
- All travellers, whether vaccinated or not, need to take a day 2 COVID-19 PCR test to be taken before the end of day 2 after you arrive in the UK.
- Fully vaccinated travellers are required to self-isolate at home or at the place they are staying at until they receive a negative PCR test.
