Marrakech Jewish Heritage Tour
Hasina Morocco Tours Jewish Heritage Tour of Marrakech is driven by a knowledgeable local guide, and starts with a tour of the famous Jewish synagogue – the Lazama Synagogue. The Lazama synagogue is the main synagogue in Marrakech, and the only one that is open to the general public on a daily basis. The original synagogue was built on this site in 1492, the year that many Jews fled from Spain due to the Spanish Inquisition. However, the current very picturesque synagogue was built here at the turn of the 20th Century.
A five-minute walk away from the Lamaza Synagogue is the Jewish Cemetry. Characterised by white washed tombs and sandy graves. Despite being the largest Cemetry in Marrakech, the graves here have three burial levels in order to make the limited space they have go as far as possible. This Jewish Cemetry is one of the most important in the Jewish world as many respected Rabbis are buried here.
After we have visited the Synagogue and the Cemetry, we will walk through the rest of the Jewish Quarter, the Mellah, visiting the many souks on the way. We will then head through the main square and out to the Bahia Palace so that you can see the intricate marquetry, painted wood and plasterwork that makes it one of Marrakech’s most eye-popping sights.

Marrakech Food Tour
